SMART Recovery is the largest global community of scientifically validated self-management training and addiction recovery meetings.
What is SMART Recovery?
SMART Recovery is a not-for-profit program, based on science, that helps people recover from a substance abuse problem. The program started in 1994 with only 42 group meetings. Today, thousands of face-to-face meetings are held daily all over the world.
SMART, an acronym meaning Self-Management and Recovery Training, puts the emphasis on the “self” and the role you play in your recovery.
The CAP gives you the chance to access the SMART Recovery program in French!
You can attend group meetings or even become a SMART Recovery facilitator throughout Canada.
Who is this program for?
This program is for anyone who seeks to break free from substance abuse and various addictions:
- to substances — to alcohol, tobacco or drugs
- to behaviours — gambling, nutrition, shopping, self-mutilation.
How does SMART work?
SMART Recovery’s approach is built around the 4-Point Program. Each point provides tools, techniques and strategies to help you along the way.
1 – Building and maintaining the motivation to change
2 – Coping with urges to use
3 – Managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviours
4 – Living a balanced life
